HANSEN RELEASES PUBLIC SAFETY PLANDENVER, CO -- Mayoral candidate Chris Hansen released his campaign’s public safety plan on Tuesday, adding more substance to the conversation around crime and safety that has dominated much of the mayoral race. Hansen – who has been endorsed by the unions representing Denver Sheriff’s Department deputies – argues that the city should prioritize long-term investments in public safety, adequate staffing levels, and robust training & accountability for officers.“Denver’s Sheriff Deputies represented by the Teamsters are enthusiastic about seeing Chris Hansen as the next Mayor of Denver, because they know he’s not just another surface-level politician,” said Ed Bagwell, political liaison for Teamsters Local 17. “Chris has always been willing to roll up his sleeves and get under the hood of difficult issues. Public safety requires true attention to detail, and Chris has always been a detail-oriented leader. We know he’ll make a safer Denver.”Hansen’s six-point plan addresses issues of staffing, funding, and violent crime, but also puts forward a roadmap for keeping Denverites safe from all manner of risks, including traffic deaths, gun violence, and auto theft. The plan also advocates for meaningful investment in the Department of Public Safety, and intentional efforts to repair the relationship between Denver’s officers and the people they serve. “Denverites deserve to feel safe in every neighborhood and in every park, and that’s why safety will be my number one priority as mayor.” Hansen said. “We need to take a multi-pronged approach to public safety, focusing not only on law enforcement, but also on root causes and crime prevention.”The plan can be read in detail on Hansen’s campaign site, or at this link. ###
